Why Focus on Cities

In the last 30 years, cities have been growing at a fast pace in both developed and developing countries. People from less developed, rural parts of the country move into cities to benefit from jobs, housing, and services. Cities are attractive; because they are innovative centers for learning, idea exchange, and technology advancement. 

There is, however, a darker side to city life. Urban centers both contribute to and suffer from climate change.  In fact, social and environmental challenges reinforce each other in urban space.

What is the purpose of SDG 5?

The purpose of SDG 5 is to end all forms of discrimination against women and girls. Moreover, this goal aims to provide empowerment and bring a better gender perspective to build the sustainable one we all strive to have.

Reasons to work with SDG 5:

Gender inequality is a worldwide issue, where women and girls are deprived of their basic rights and opportunities. Domestic violence, sexual assault, and gender-based discrimination still prevail globally, hindering equal opportunity and security.

This goal aims to empower women and girls while securing freedom from discrimination and violence.
